Holding a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Precision Instruments from Tsinghua University and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Yuan has devoted his career to the research and development of new-energy vehicles and industrial strategy management. He is a well-known expert in Li-ion batteries, electrical powertrains, and vehicle integration and control. His work has contributed significantly to breakthroughs in key technologies within the new-energy vehicle industry, the establishment of a technological ecosystem, and innovation in R&D management. Dr. Yuan previously served as the director and general manager of the National New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Centre, a senior researcher at the General Motors Global R&D Centre, deputy chairperson and executive vice president at Beijing Pride Power Technology Co., Ltd., chairperson at Beijing Electronics Holding & SK Technology Co., Ltd., and deputy general-manager at Beijing Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd.
Dr. Yuan has led over a dozen national and local R&D projects, including the development of pure-electric passenger vehicles for BAIC Motor, the industrialization of new-energy vehicle batteries, and technological breakthroughs in power-system platforms for pure-electric commercial vehicles (category M3/N3). By supporting business development through independent innovation, he continues to lead industrial advancements and enhance the core competitiveness of the automotive industry.
He is the recipient of the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Leader Award from SAE, the 1st Prize of the China Automotive S&T Award, and the 1st Prize of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Award. Furthermore, he was honored with the 1st Prize at the 23rd National Enterprise Management Modernization Innovation Achievement awards.
Dr. Yuan is a senior talent of the Beijing Overseas Talent Aggregation Project, an expert member of the Special National Task Team for New Energy, and a specially hired expert of Beijing Municipality. He also serves as a member of the expert panel for the Evaluation Committee of Formal Professional Titles of Beijing Municipality, a top-flight pioneer in Zhongguancun, chief expert of BAIC Group, and a visiting professor at several universities, including the Beijing University of Technology. He has published a scholarly monograph and over 30 papers in renowned national and international academic journals and is the owner of over 20 invention patents.
